So? People in the U.S. consume an average 240 micrograms (µg) of iodine a day. Japanese consume 50x more. US rate of breast cancer is the highest in the world– Japan one of the lowest. Life expectancy in US: 77.85 years. In Japan? 81.25 years in Japan, the highest of all industrialized countries.
